We catch up with Phil Hughes, Store manger at MEC. He tells us about his new 201Specialized Enduro.
Phil, You have rencently got yourself a new 2017 Specialized Enduro, Why did you decide to get this bike?
I had been riding the previous model Enduro for a good number of years and it is a bike that suits my riding style perfectly, when i saw the new 2017 mdel i had to have it. All the new features were ones that i knew i wanted in my next bike and the revised geometry and frame design made my favorite bike even more capable on the trails.
What do you like the most about the new Enduro?
I love the revised suspension linkage and over sized bearings- it adds a massive amount of stiffness in the more techincal trails and the boost 148 spacing compliments this. The head tube angle has slackened out by 1,5 degress which makes the bike even more confident when you push it on the downhills and i am loving the swat door and internal cable routing.
How does this bike compare to your last bike?
Even though it has the same name it feels quite different to ride something that was noticable from ride 1, it is definitely able to push harder on the descents and the slightly longer chainstays do make it more stable at speed.
Are there any features that you would change?
For me i would add a little more length in the top tube being a tall guy but that is something i would do to most bikes i ride being 198cm tall. I am keen to try some 27+ wheels on the bike in the next coming months and I think I may run 29 and 27+ wheelsets depending on the trails.
What else do you like about the bike?
The colour. Love that you can ride 160mm travel bikes anywhere now too from woodhill to Queenstown and still have the same fun.
